Background
Abishek Iyer received his BSc (Biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics) from Bangalore University, India and worked as a clinical research coordinator (especially human endocrinology trials) in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, India before arriving in Australia to pursue his higher education. He graduated from The University of Queensland in M Mol Biol. before undertaking postgraduate research in pharmacology and physiology in Professor Lindsay Brown's laboratory at The University of Queensland. He was a UQ PhD scholar with Professor Lindsay Brown (USQ) and Professor David Fairlie as advisors. He is now a postdoctoral researcher in the Fairlie Group. He has over 20 publications in experimental pharmacology and his current research interests include inflammatory and epigenetic mechanisms of obesity, type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
